Celtic captain Callum McGregor was delighted to get on the scoresheet against Rangers as he hailed his side’s “excellent” performance.
The midfielder said the 3-0 win over their Old Firm rivals “had a bit of everything” from an attacking and defending viewpoint and insists they were unlucky to not have won it by an ever bigger margin.
Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi also scored in a dominant display at Celtic Park as the Hoops continued their 100% winning start to the season and move five points ahead of the Ibrox side in the Premiership.
There will now be a two-week international break before the champions return to league action with a home game against Hearts.
Speaking after the win over Rangers on Sunday, McGregor said: “It was excellent, I thought the quality of the goals, quality of the defending and the way the team worked for each other had a bit of everything and probably unlucky not to score more goals.
“These games are always pivotal in the season, you want to win the game first and foremost and if you can add the performance to that, then great, and obviously we have managed to do that today.
“Some of the lads will be going away on international duty now, so hopefully they come back without any issues and we can just keep going and maximise what we can out of the group.”
The 31-year-old skipper, who announced his retirement from international football following Euro 2024, has now scored three goals already in the first four league games.
And while he is more than happy to get amongst the goals he insists the team performance and keeping the winning run going is the main thing.
He said: “Sometimes you just get yourself into these positions and when your lucks in and your feeling good they just tend to go in, so I’m happy with that.
“When you play in these games you want to do well and help the team as much as you can and, the rest of the boys will tell you, when you score in this fixture it’s probably as good a feeling as you will get in football.
“So, I am absolutely delighted with that but the most important thing is the team and how we play and obviously getting the result.”
