SNS GroupMartin O’Neill insists it didn’t take him very long to reflect on his future as Celtic manager following a period of scrutiny on his position.
The 74-year-old, in his second spell as permanent manager after two stints as interim boss last season, was under growing pressure following back-to-back defeats to rivals Rangers.
That included a 3-0 loss at Ibrox, which knocked Celtic out of the League Cup, and a league defeat to Rangers before the prolonged international break.
Celtic also lost to Ferencvaros by three goals to one in their Europa League campaign opener between the two derby matches.
O’Neill admitted after the Celtic Park defeat that he would take time to reflect and speak with the Celtic hierarchy.
However, in an interview with the club’s YouTube channel, he said: “I’m extremely prepared now [to lead the team].
“We had a difficult week, that can happen. You can lose to your arch-rivals, you can lose a European game. It’s certainly not the end of the world as what it seemed to be described as.
“I did think I would take a little bit of time and it didn’t take me that much time to think about it.
“I want to lead the club. I want to try and win the league, which is what we set out to do. I’m just as determined now as ever before.
“It was a time of reflection, for a moment or two with some things that you think about.
“But overall, I’m back and raring to go and the team is ready.”
Celtic return from the international break against Motherwell on Sunday at Fir Park, sitting top of the table, two points ahead of Rangers.
