Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim expecting 'tough game' against Rangers

Old Trafford will host the Battle of Britain clash on Thursday night.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is expecting a “tough game” when they come up against Rangers on Thursday.

The Portuguese manager and defender Harry Maguire were speaking to the media ahead of the Europa League game.

Old Trafford will host the Battle of Britain clash and penultimate game in the league stage of Europe’s second tier competition.

Philippe Clement’s men are making the journey south to take on the struggling English Premier League side.

Both clubs are currently in the top-eight of the rankings and hoping to secure a place in the last-16.

They are separated by a point with Rangers in eighth on 11 points and United in seventh on 12 points.

It will be the fifth meeting between the sides in European competition with United winning three of the previous games and the other ending in a draw.

Rangers have never scored against the Old Trafford side in a competitive game with their best result coming in a 0-0 draw in the Champions League back in 2010.

On the eve of the game, England international Maguire said: “We expect a tough game, we know they will come here and give all they’ve got and bring a great support.

“They have done extremely well in the competition so we expect a tough game but we will focus on ourselves and making sure that we perform after a tough defeat at the weekend.

“We will go into the game with confidence that we can perform and get the three points.”

Amorim echoed those comments, saying: “Like Harry said, we expect a tough match, with a lot of physicality during the game.

“I know that some important players from Rangers won’t be playing so we have to know the new players to understand the way they play.

“They will have their full-backs really high up the pitch and they have talent to score in the final third, so it’s another tough game and an important one for us because we want to skip the playoffs.”
