Livingston need 'two or three' signings to help in relegation fight

David Martindale admits finances are an issue as he looks to beat the drop.

David Martindale says Livingston need new faces to help them turn around their season but admits there may not be money to spend in January.

The Almondvale club have lost their last seven Premiership games and are five points adrift of St Johnstone at the bottom of the table, albeit with a game in hand.

Martindale has only seen his side win two league games this season and knows that they have to arrest their slump in form if they are to avoid relegation this year.

Though the manager has steered his side out of difficult situations before, and forged a reputation for building a team that punches above their weight, he believes reinforcements are needed to lift his squad.

He said: “We need to two or three in to help the group. I think we do.

“And I think that’s evident when you look at the league position.”

The transfer window opens in less than three weeks time but Martindale doesn’t think he will be in a position to spend money, having previously laid out the financial position of the club and the limited budget he has to work with.

“Unfortunately, money talks in football,” he said. “Finances talk in football.

“I accepted that at the start year I knew it was going to be a difficult season and it’s a challenge I’m up for, and it’s a challenge that I’m not going to back down from.”
