Lewis Ferguson reveals Rangers 'dream' after summer transfer speculation

Lewis Ferguson reveals he still has aspirations of playing for Rangers after a summer of transfer speculation.

The Bologna midfielder was subject to rumours around his future after turning out for Scotland in the World Cup, with a switch to boyhood club Rangers among the possible moves muted.

The 27-year-old’s dad and former Ibrox star Derek Ferguson told Open Goal his son was “willing” to sign for the Scottish club this summer.

However, the Scotland international, who joined the Serie A club from Aberdeen in 2022, remained at the Italian side.

“I had a long think after the World Cup,” he said. “I was a little bit unsure but nothing was ever really that close to be honest.

“I had a long think about my future and what that was going to look like and, in the end, it was still at Bologna. I’ve loved every moment that I’ve had there, so it was about continuing that journey and see where it takes me.”

The midfielder, who has two years remaining on his current contract, admitted a move to Ibrox is “always in the back of my mind”.

He said: “It’s no secret I grew up a [Rangers] fan. That’s absolutely no secret. My family is involved in the club, and it was an aspiration of mine, a dream of mine as a kid and that’s not changed.

“But I don’t want to speak about that while I’m still a player at Bologna. I’ve got too much respect for them, but in the future you never know.

“It might happen, it might not, but it’s always been something in the back of my mind.”
