League Cup action was back underway on Saturday with 32 teams playing their latest group stage game as they look to make their way to December’s final.
Seven Premiership clubs were in action with every team beneath last season’s top six taking part in the groups.
It was a mixed bag for the top-flight sides with St Mirren beating Arbroath in Paisley, St Johnstone securing a 3-0 away victory over Alloa, Ross County came back from a goal down to beat Morton and Kilmarnock winning a hard fought away trip to last season’s League One winners Dunfermline.
But Dundee were defeated by Airdrie in North Lanarkshire and Livingston went to penalties with Hamilton after a late equaliser at Almondvale before losing 4-1 in the shootout.
Elsewhere Championship side Dundee United put an end to their recent losing run with a convincing win over Peterhead and Falkirk drew with Partick Thistle at Firhill with the Bairns winning 7-6 in the shootout.
Motherwell beat Queen’s Park 1-0 at Fir Park in Saturday’s late game which was a 5.30pm kick-off.
