League Cup round-up: Hibs thump Clyde, Arbroath beat St Mirren, Kilmarnock win at Fraserburgh SNS Group

Lee Johnson got off to the perfect start as Hibernian manager as he saw his side beat Clyde 5-0 in the Premier Sports Cup.

Christian Doidge scored a hat-trick as the Easter Road started the group stage with a bang, and Elias Melkersen and Josh Campbell were also on the scoresheet in the resounding win.

Kilmarnock were 3-1 winners at Fraserburgh, with Oli Shaw, Fraser Murray and Kyle Lafferty all on target for the Premiership side, while Ross County earned a point with a penalty shoot-out win after drawing 1-1 at Buckie Thistle.

Livingston raced to a 3-0 lead against Albion Rovers through Scott Pittman, Josh Mullin and Bruce Anderson but had to fight to stay on top after Ayrton Sonkur and Michael Paton reduced the deficit in the second half.

St Mirren suffered defeat in their season opener in Paisley. Stephen Robinson’s side created chances against Arbroath but a late Dylan Patterson goal sealed a win for the part-time side.

Niall McGinn, Alex Jakubiak and Lyall Cameron found the net as Dundee started their season with a 3-0 win over fellow Championship side Hamilton, while Morton and Falkirk played out a goalless draw, with the Bairns taking the poin for a penalty shoot-out win.

Simon Murray bagged a hat-trick in Queen’s Park’s 5-2 win at Stranraer. Stirling Albion were 2-1 winners at Dumbarton.

Dunfermline started with a 2-0 win away at East Fife, Airdrieonians won 3-0 at Cowdenbeath and Ayr United were shoot-out winners over Elgin City after a 0-0 draw.

Queen of the South lost 2-3 to Annan Athletic at home, while Kelty Hearts lost 1-0 at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
