Celtic look set to clinch the signing of Shin Yamada after Kawasaki Frontale announced the player’s sale to “a club overseas”.

The Scottish champions have been repeatedly linked with the Japanese forward this summer and were reportedly closing in on a deal to add him to Brendan Rodgers’ squad ahead of the new season.

Now his J-League side have announced that he will saw farewell to fans at the end of Wednesday’s cup match before leaving Kawasaki.

A club statement read: “We would like to inform you that Shin Yamada will be leaving the team at the end of today’s (July 16) activity in order to complete the necessary procedures to enable him to transfer to a club overseas.

“We will notify you further regarding future plans as soon as they are officially decided.

“In addition, after the Emperor’s Cup third-round match against SC Sagamihara, which is being held today (July 16th), Shin Yamada will give a speech to the supporters.”

The 25-year-old, who scored 19 goals in 38 league games last season, earned his first international cap for Japan this year.
