Nikola Katic believes his match-winning goal against Celtic was the best moment of his career so far and was reward for a fearless performace from Rangers.

With the sides level at 1-1, Katic rose high to head in from a corner and seal a first win for Rangers at Celtic Park since 2010, and narrow the gap at the top of the table to just two points going into the winter break.

The Croatian described the feeling of securing the win and said the Rangers players were always confident they could take the game to the champions.

"It feels amazing," he said. "To come here and win in this place and make the gap between the sides really small was just amazing.

"I am really proud of my teammates and so happy.

"I think we showed in the cup final that we can handle Celtic and we had our plan for the game. We listened to the manager and what he wanted and came here and just gave everything with no fear. It's a tough place to come and play but we've done it.

"The goal was probably the best moment of my career until now. It's something we practise so much, we do it every single day and I was so happy to get the reward because we work so hard.

Katic was also relieved after he gave away a first half penalty that could have handed Celtic the lead, only for Allan McGregor to save Ryan Christie's spot kick.

He said: "Was I worried about the penalty? Almost.

"It was the referee's decision and maybe yes, maybe no, but Allan McGregor saved me and he saved the team."

With the gap at the top of the table narrowed, and Rangers still having a game in hand, the Ibrox side head off for a break with momentum on their side but Katic said nobody would be getting carried away.

"We are in a good position but it's still winter," he said.

"It's not even close to the end. We still have to take it game by game, session by session, keep pushing and giving everything to win each game."
