Josh Taylor teams up with Tyson Fury’s former trainer

Ben Davison steps in after the Scots champion's split from Shane McGuigan.

Josh Taylor has teamed up with Tyson Fury’s former trainer Ben Davison ahead of his return to the ring.

The link up comes after Taylor parted ways with Shane McGuigan following his split from Cyclone Promotions.

Davison became available after heavyweight champion Fury decided to instead partner with Javan ‘Sugar’ Hill ahead of his impressive victory over Deontay Wilder last weekend.

Taylor, the unified WBA Super, IBF and Ring Magazine world champion in the 140-pound division, is to face his mandatory challenger, Apinun Khongsong, from Thailand, at the Hydro in Glasgow on May 2.

The Prestonpans fighter was last in action back in October when he outpointed Regis Prograis to win the World Boxing Super Series.

Taylor said: “I think Ben is a world-class coach and when I first had a couple of sessions with him, we gelled and our styles clicked straight away.

“I believe he is the best man for the job for me and will bring out the best in me.

“I’m very excited to get going for what I think is going to be very bright & prosperous partnership.”
