Sassuolo left-back Josh Doig has been named in the Scotland Under-21 squad for this month’s Euro 2025 qualifier at home to Kazakhstan.
The 21-year-old former Hibernian defender missed the last double-header after being called into Steve Clarke’s full squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Georgia and Norway in November following injuries to Aaron Hickey, Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney.
Doig, who joined Sassuolo from Serie A rivals Hellas Verona in January, is one of five key players to return to Scot Gemmill’s squad ahead of the match in Paisley on Thursday, March 21.
Bristol City forward Tommy Conway, Sturm Graz defender Max Johnston, midfielder Lewis Fiorini – on loan at Charlton from Manchester City – and Dundee attacker Josh Mulligan are all back after missing the November matches in Belgium and Hungary.
Liverpool winger Ben Doak is out, however, after sustaining a serious knee injury in December, while Leeds’ Jeremiah Mullen, another ever-present during this campaign, also misses out due to an injury picked up while on loan at Inverness last month.
The Scots are currently second in Group B, three points behind leaders Spain, with half of their 10 games still to play as they bid to qualify for the finals in Slovakia next year.
