McGinn: Scotland looking forward not back after Euros disappointment

Scotland are preparing to take on Poland and Portugal in the Nations League.

John McGinn says Scotland will look forward and not back following their disappointing European Championships campaign.

The national team are preparing to take on Poland and Portugal in the Nations League in their first games back since Germany.

Steve Clarke’s side lost heavily to Germany before drawing with Switzerland and falling to a late defeat to Hungary that ended their campaign at the group stages.

And McGinn admits that the lows don’t ever really leave you but it’s about how you dust yourself down and go again.

Qualification for the World Cup in 2026 is now the aim for Scotland as they look to reach the biggest stage in football for the first time since 1998.

When asked about the feelings of disappointment after the Euros, he said: “You definitely don’t park them, I still think about getting relegated with St Mirren, what I could have changed, what you could do better.

“These things never leave you. Everyone always says the highs in football make the lows worth it, but they’re lying.

“It will always be in the back of your head, things you could have done differently, both together as a team and individually. So we don’t change that now, it’s about looking forward.”
