John Higgins made history as he came from behind to beat world champion Kyren Wilson in the second round of the World Grand Prix in Hong Kong.
The Scot’s 4-2 victory secured him a record-breaking 147th ranking quarter-final, surpassing Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Wilson took the opening frame with a break of 131 and also led 2-1 before Higgins, having made 143 in between, subsequently surged to victory, clinched with a 100.
Higgins will next play Shaun Murphy, who beat Barry Hawkins 4-1, while Judd Trump, given a bye after Jack Lisowski withdrew from the tournament for personal reasons, will face Hossein Vafaei.
Vafaei, a late replacement in the draw when O’Sullivan pulled out for medical reasons, got past Xu Si 4-3 despite the pain of a spinal problem.
Mark Selby faces Stuart Bingham after they recorded 4-2 victories over Jimmy Robertson and Wu Yize respectively, and Neil Robertson, 4-1 winner against David Gilbert, will take on Xiao Guodong, who edged Lei Peifan 4-3.
