Scotland international John Fleck has been discharged from hospital, having received treatment after collapsing on the pitch during Sheffield United’s match against Reading.

Fleck was treated on the pitch for ten minutes after a sudden collapse which led to players from both sides calling for urgent medical attention. He was given oxygen before being transferred to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.

After spending a night at Royal Berkshire Hospital, the player has now been allowed to return home.

A tweet from the club on Wednesday morning read: “Sheffield United is grateful to report that John Fleck has been discharged from hospital and will return to Sheffield today.

“He was conscious when he was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital and was communicative with club and medical personnel, as well as his family.”

United manager Slavisa Jokanovic spoke after the match and said that Fleck was conscious soon after his collapse.

He said: “I cannot comment so much but Fleck is conscious, he is in the hospital in good hands and we expect he will be okay.

“I didn’t see exactly what happened. One moment he fell down and It was really complicated moment for him and for us too.

“For sure, honestly I didn’t see what happened everything was quick, both benches going insane. As I said before, Fleck is conscious and he asked for the result. We hope he is okay with him.”

A statement from South Yorkshire Police at the time said: “”From what we are being told, John Fleck is alert and communicating with emergency services staff following the horrible incident.

“Fingers crossed for a full recovery.”

Former Rangers player Fleck has been with Sheffield United since 2016 and has made more than 200 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

The 30-year-old has five international caps and has been a regular member of the Scotland squad that has reached the World Cup play-offs.
