Jimmy Thelin revealed that Duk has made a positive start in his efforts to reintegrate with the Aberdeen squad following his summer misdemeanours.

The 24-year-old forward incurred the wrath of his club when he failed to return for pre-season training as he tried to force a move out of Pittodrie.

However, it was announced by the Dons last weekend that Duk had returned to the club after “owning the situation” and “demonstrating his contrition”.

Reflecting on the former Benfica striker’s first few days back in training, Thelin – speaking to Red TV as he was named Scottish Premiership Glen’s Manager of the Month for August on Wednesday – believes things are now going in the right direction.

“When he came in, he apologised to the players, the staff and everybody around here and it feels genuine,” said the Swede. “The players have taken care of him in a good way. The most important thing not only for him but for everyone, is that everybody gives 100 per cent for Aberdeen in training sessions and in games.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, it is for everyone. Just be clear with everyone and we will be fine.

“We have a really good team spirit. You can’t travel through time or change the past, but the most important thing is to look forward.

“For me, it is the starting point with him right now. The squad has accepted it and he has integrated really well with everybody. He is giving 100 per cent in every training session since he arrived.

“So from there, he has to grow and adapt into the team, and get the connection with his team-mates. We know his qualities but from not playing football for a while he just has to train well, stay sharp and be ready for a game.

“His individual fitness is good but then he has to adapt to the games, tempo, intensity and his team-mates to understand how we want to play. Of course that will take some time, but let’s see.”

Thelin earned the manager of the month award after overseeing a perfect start of four consecutive victories in the Premiership.

“Football is a collective sport and this award is for everyone that belongs to Aberdeen, the staff, the players who fight every match and every training session, and the supporters who back the team both home and away in such strong numbers.

“We all share the same vision. We strive to get better every day and everything is connected to hopefully bring success to this wonderful club.”
