Jimmy Thelin is pleased with Aberdeen’s business in the transfer window and believes the addition of striker Kevin Nisbet has added some much-needed experience.
The 28-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Pittodrie, joined from Millwall for £300,000 on a three-year deal on deadline day, with the club also bringing in Sweden winger Jesper Karlsson on loan.
“The club and staff have done a good job in the window, worked well together, so now we have to get it out on the pitch, in the performance and grow as a team,” Thelin told a press conference.
“We have to start this season with goalscoring – and we know Kevin and his qualities and his position inside the box and finishing. He already knows how we play and his role in the team. So it was good adding that competition and know-how.
“Jesper is a player I had before a long time ago and of course he has grown, but he has qualities around the box – to set up other players in this situation, but he is also a good finisher.
“He can add qualities and also be a good role model as we have some younger wingers now. It’s always good to have different age groups so they can learn from each other.”
Nisbet said fans have not seen the best of him yet and he is raring to get going again.
“I really enjoyed my time here. I felt settled, I got on well with the changing room and it’s just a great club to be at. You don’t know how big the club is until you come and play for it,” he said.
“As soon as I got a taste of that, and winning the Scottish Cup, it was a case of wanting to get back on a permanent deal and recreate that success.”
Aberdeen are bottom of the table without a point or goal after three matches and Thelin knows he has to turn that poor start around quickly, starting against Livingston.
“As a manager you know that – we have to have the long vision in our head, but results have to come also,” he added.
“We’ve had a tough start to the season but we play at home and we have to turn things around and start winning games.
“To get the time, you also have to win during the time. They (Livi) have done well. They’re a good team, but I think and I believe we have taken a step now.”
