St Johnstone have confirmed the signing of winger Jamie Murphy after the player left Hibernian.

Murphy has signed a one-year deal with Callum Davidson’s side, with an option for a further year.

The 32-year-old, who has two international caps, said he was delighted to have settled his future and hoped the experience he had picked up in his career so far could be of benefit to his new side.

Murphy played 18 times for Hibs last season, scoring twice, but then moved to English League Two side Mansfield Town for the second half of the season.

“The manager has been in touch for a few weeks now, I’ve been doing my own running since the end of last season hoping this opportunity would come about,” Murphy told Saints TV.

“My agent and myself have been itching at the bit to get the deal over the line and we’re very happy to have the contract signed.

“I come in with a lot of experience so hopefully that will help add to the squad. I’ve played a lot of football and scored a few goals along the way so hopefully I can keep adding to that during my time here in Perth.”

Murphy, who counts Motherwell, Rangers, Sheffield United and Brighton among his former clubs, is St Johnstone’s fourth signing of the summer as manager Davidson looks to improve the team’s fortunes after they narrowly avoided relegation last season.

Andrew Considine and Drey Wright have joined on free transfers, while Adam Montgomery will spend the season at McDiarmid Park on loan from Celtic.
