James Fowler leaves Kilmarnock after 'restructure' at Premiership club

James Fowler has left his position as head of football operations at Kilmarnock following a “restructure” at Rugby Park.

Fowler, who made more than 450 appearances for the club during his playing career, took up the role in 2019 but has taken voluntary redundancy as Kilmarnock reshape the football side of the business.

In a statement on the club’s website, he said: “I’ve enjoyed being back at the club during one of the most challenging periods in our history as we dealt with the impact of a global pandemic.

“I was delighted to see the club regain our Premiership status and look forward to what the future holds for Killie.

“I would to thank the board for the opportunity and I’m confident that the team will succeed under the guidance of Derek McInnes and his backroom staff.”

Director Phyllis McLeish added: “James will always be welcome at Rugby Park and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Fowler departs the club as manager McInnes prepares his squad for their return to the top flight after winning the Championship last season.

Alan Power, Zach Hemming, Lewis Mayo and Kerr McInroy have already joined the club but McInnes is keen to add more new faces.

“We’ve got some good players in the building,” the manager told STV earlier this month. “And for us to be as strong as we can be, we’ve got to try and utilise the budget that’s been afforded to me the best way we can.

“So there’s lots to do and you don’t always get what you want. Signing good players isn’t always easy, but we’ve got a lot of good work to be done in recruitment ahead of the season.”
