St Mirren have announced that defender Jaden Brown’s contract has been terminated “by mutual consent” two weeks after the player appeared in court charged with driving offenses and attempting to pervert the court of justice.
The Premiership club had announced their own internal investigation into the incident following Brown’s court appearance and have now said that he has left the club to be closer to his family in England.
Brown is now the third of St Mirren’s summer signings to leave the club following off-the-field issues.
Defender Shaun Rooney left the club by mutual consent after being charged with assaulting a teenager in a takeaway in Glasgow. Striker Kevin van Veen’s loan from FC Groningen was terminated when the Dutchman was charged with domestic abuse.
St Mirren announced Brown’s exit in a brief statement on Tuesday that read: “St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Jaden Brown has left the club by mutual consent.
“Jaden will now return to England to be closer to his family.
“The club will make no further comment.”
Brown admitted three charges under the Road Traffic Act, when he appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court last month.
The St Mirren player faced seven charges including of attempting to pervert the course of justice – but his not guilty pleas to four charges was accepted by the Crown.
The sheriff ordered reports to be produced and adjourned the case.
The 25-year-old is due to return to court for sentencing on November 29.
Following the announcement that Brown had left the club, St Mirren said that they had signed former Rangers defender Declan John on a short-term deal until January.
The Welsh international was most recently with Bolton Wanderers and spent last season on loan at Salford City.
