Jack Hendry will start for Scotland against Austria after manager Steve Clarke named his side for the World Cup qualifying opener.

The match at Hampden is the first game of the campaign to reach World Cup 2022. Scotland are looking to follow their success in qualifying for the European Championships by reaching a World Cup finals for the first time since 1998.

A win over the second seeds would be the perfect start before a trip to Israel and a home match against Faroe Islands within the next week.

Hendry, on loan at KV Oostende from Celtic, has been in im[pressive form this seaosn and has been rewarded with the chance to stake his claim for a regular place in the national team.

Southampton striker Che Adams, who joined the squad after pledging his allegiance to Scotland, is on the bench.

David Marshall will start in goals at Hampden behind a back line of Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney, Hendry, Grant Hanley and Stephen O’Donnell.

Scott McTominay moves into midfield alongside John McGinn, Stuart Armstrong and Ryan Christe.

Lyndon Dykes starts as the lone striker.
