A Boston transport chief says it is now “go time” as 20,000 fans are expected to travel by train for Scotland’s World Cup opener against Haiti on Saturday.

The Tartan Army has taken over the capital of Massachusetts with 6.30am bagpipe wake-up call and beer running dry.

The Chief Enterprise Development Office for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Erika Mazza, told STV News that the city had to build a new platform to meet demand.

She said: “It’s fun, it is different, because we have never moved 20,000 people per match down to the stadium.

“We actually built a whole new platform down at the stadium to allow those individuals to come in on time efficiently, and then to get everyone back safely and efficiently to Boston itself.

“We’ve held big events but we have never done this before so it is go time for us.”

Steve Clarke’s men will play at the Gillette Stadium twice, against Haiti and Morocco, before heading to Florida for the final group game against Brazil.
