Scotland have drawn 1-1 with Israel in their World Cup qualifying match in Tel Aviv.

Dor Peretz put Israel ahead before half-time and Scotland fought back with a Ryan Fraser equaliser but neither side could find a winner in another tight match with opponents who have become familiar in recent years.

Scotland went close to opening the scoring in the early exchanges when Scott McTominay headed wide but it was the home side who settled best and enjoyed the majority of possession.

Manor Solomon forced a save from David Marshall after 25 minutes and a series of long-range shots were warning to Scotland that inviting Israel on was likely to bring problems.

The hosts got their goal as half-time approached. Solomon found Dor Peretz and he found the top corner with a long-range strike that David Marshall got fingertips to but couldn’t keep out of the net.

Manager Steve Clarke made a half-time change, replacing Jack Hendry with Ryan Christie and switching from a three-man central defence to a back four.

The switch brought more possession and Scotland asked more questions of Israel, getting their reward with a goal in the 57th minute. A break forward saw Adams pick out Fraser and the Newcastle winger took a touch and then guided a shot inside the post and well out of reach of Ofir Marciano.

Scotland struggled to create opportunities and the closest the visitors came to a late winner was a McTominay shot that lacked power.

In the other group games, top seeds Denmark thrashed Moldova 8-0, while Austria came back from a goal down to beat Faroe Islands 3-1.
