Rangers visit Lyon on Thursday in a return to the scene of one of their greatest ever European wins.

The then-French champions were blown away in their own backyard by Walter Smith’s side in the 2007/08 Champions League.

Lee McCulloch, Daniel Cousin and DaMarcus Beasley got the goals in a 3-0 rout Rangers fans still savour to this day.

Lyon, however, earned revenge with a 3-0 win of their own at Ibrox, meaning Rangers tumbled out of Europe’s elite competition at the group stage.

All was far from lost, though, as the Ibrox side surged all the way to the Uefa Cup final, succumbing to Zenit St Petersburg.
