Greg Stewart revealed the opportunity to return to home comforts guided his decision to rejoin Kilmarnock.
After a spell in India with Jamshedpur and Mumbai City, the 33-year-old striker came back to Scottish football and signed with former club Killie under manager Derek McInnes, who is also his former boss at Aberdeen.
Stewart came off the bench late in the 2-0 Scottish Gas Scottish Cup win over Dundee – another former club – at Rugby Park on Saturday.
And ahead of the home cinch Premiership game against Hibernian on Saturday, the former Rangers and Birmingham attacker said: “Delighted, happy to be back on home soil. Just looking forward to the coming weeks and obviously another game on Saturday.
“Obviously I’ve been here before and I had a good spell the last time I came here.
“I knew what the club was about and obviously the gaffer as well, I’d worked under him twice before, so that was a conversation we’ve had, me and the manager. After that it was easy from both sides.
“Obviously we’ve got a good relationship. And it was a couple of conversations and we both wanted to get it done without any complication.
“So, happy that both of us and the club were happy to get me back and I just wanted it done as soon as possible so I can get back on the pitch.
“Once I had left Rangers I wanted to try something different, new.
“I didn’t expect to go to India but that’s what happened. Everything happens for a reason and it was a great experience for me.
“I had a great, two and a half years there. Some difficult times as well, obviously with the family being at home etc, but I was successful on the pitch, which was the main thing for my job.
“So yeah, it was good but it’s done now and I’m just happy to be back in Scotland, back on home soil and obviously wanting to prove myself again.”
