Humility remains important to Jimmy Thelin as Dons bid to maintain strong form

Jimmy Thelin believes remaining humble is key as unbeaten Aberdeen prepare to host Dundee United at a packed Pittodrie on Saturday.

The Dons came from two goals behind to draw 2-2 with William Hill Premiership champions Celtic at Parkhead last weekend, leaving them behind the league leaders only on goal difference.

The Granite City side have yet to lose in 14 games in all competitions since Thelin took over in the summer but the former Elfsborg boss refused to add further hype to the growing excitement around the Dons.

He said: “I don’t think about the runs or these kind of things. I just think about that game and how difficult it is to come back from two down and go out in the second half and get this energy to the team and have the players competing, that was so nice to see.

“For us that is history and all focus this week has been for this game and only this game.

“We have to leave that behind and now only focus (on) how we can try to get the points tomorrow.

“It was good how the game started and how we came back, it was a good result against Celtic.

“We work, we’re still humble. We need to know that we can’t count on history, we need to go into the next game with our preparations.

“First was recovery and then how we build up our tactics against Dundee Utd and how we want to play.

“Still the focus is there. I think everybody keeps working game by game and as long as we can do that I think we can be strong.

“That’s our main focus. Keep everybody humble and put effort in and do it step by step. That’s where we are right now.

“If there is anything extra around the games, some extra energy or passion, this kind of things, it’s always nice to be a part of.

“That’s what football is about. You have to do the training and prepare yourself but then the game is there and everybody’s together, their supporters, everyone who is involved in football is there. The more spirit around the games, the better.”

Dundee United also came from behind last week with two late goals to beat Hibernian 3-2 at Tannadice.

Jim Goodwin’s side are only one point behind third-placed Rangers and Thelin is impressed.

He said: “Jim is a good coach and they have a really well organised team.

“They are stable in the core and they have some ideas how they want to attack the opponent and they are quite strong on that.

“They are a consistent team. I think it’s going to be a lot of fighting spirits of two strong teams tomorrow.”
