Hibernian manager Lee Johnson has vowed to keep “a close eye” on Nohan Kenneh after allowing the midfielder to join Shrewsbury on a season-long loan.
The cinch Premiership side signed the 20-year-old on a three-year deal following his departure from Leeds last summer, but he has struggled to establish himself with his parent club so far.
After making 19 appearances in the first half of last season, Kenneh spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Ross County and he will now continue his development with the Shrews in Sky Bet League One.
“We believe this loan move is the perfect step for Nohan at this point in his career, in a challenging and physical division,” Johnson told Hibs’ official website as the move was announced on Monday.
“We will keep a close eye on his performances, and hope this furthers his development even more.”
Shrewsbury head coach Matt Taylor is delighted to secure the services of Kenneh, who made his debut for Liberia earlier this year.
“There were lots of other clubs interested in him which means he is fully invested with us this season,” said Taylor.
“He is a very athletic, physical player with excellent technical ability who is fully aware of his role within the team and the squad.
“I know I say this every time we sign a player, but first and foremost he is an exceptional person which is so important.”
