Hibernian’s board of directors have given their backing to head coach David Gray amid a run of results that has the side sitting at the bottom of the Premiership.
Speculation about Gray’s position had grown after Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to St Mirren. It left Hibs with only one win from their last 13 games.
Gray was appointed to the role on a permanent basis in the summer, having acted as caretaker manager on three occasions since 2021 as the club has gone through a succession of coaches. Jack Ross, Shaun Maloney, Lee Johnston and Nick Montgomery have all been sacked by the Hibs hierarchy in recent years.
Under Gray, the team has only won once in the league this season and has repeatedly dropped points by conceding late goals.
The Hibs board have now issued a statement publicly backing Gray, adding that everyone at Easter Road is working to improve the club’s standing.
“We are disappointed with the poor start to our current season like all Hibernian FC supporters,” the statement read.
“Following the weekend’s result, we have held discussions as a group addressing how we move forward.
“We continue to work tirelessly in our quest to improve our performance and achieve the results we need on the pitch.
“Through this challenging time, we support our head coach David Gray and his management team. All departments are under pressure to deliver.
“We recognise that this is a hard time for our supporters, and we know we can do better. Together, with Black Knight Football, we are working hard to make that happen.”
Fans have shown their anger at the club’s current predicament but a lot of their ire has been directed at the board and the Gordon family, who own a majority stake.
Recruitment has been criticised, and the appointment of Malky Mackay as sporting director was not popular with a large section of the club’s support.
Bournemouth owner Bill Foley’s Black Knight investment group bought a 25% stake in the club last year but Foley criticised the Gordon family in July, saying they weren’t open to advice.
