Hearts midfielder Jorge Grant will be suspended for his side’s trip to face Rangers at Ibrox after an appeal against his red card failed.

Grant was sent off in the first half of the Premiership match for a challenge on Callum Slattery, with referee Kevin Clancy instantly showing a red card.

A VAR check saw the decision upheld and, despite being reduced to ten men, Hearts went on to take three points.

The club were unhappy with the decision though, and have asked for it to be reviewed by an independent panel. A hearing took place on Tuesday where the initial decision was upheld.

After full-time on Sunday, Hearts manager Robbie Neilson had expressed his disappointment at the decision.

He said: “I’ve seen it a couple of times and the referee’s understanding is that it was high and reckless but when you watch the tackle, it was on the ground. Yes, he makes contact, but I didn’t think it was too aggressive.

“The biggest disappointment is it goes to VAR and he doesn’t then go to look at it. You just hope they would have a wee bit of strength to go and do that.

“VAR is meant to get decisions right but I don’t think it got it right today.”
