Hearts have reached the Scottish Cup final, beating Hibs 2-1 after extra time at Hampden.

Craig Wighton opened the scoring after an hour at the national stadium, heading past Ofir Marciano in the Hibs goal.

The lead was short-lived and Hibs were level six minutes later when Christian Doidge rose highest to guide the ball inside the far post from Joe Newell’s free kick

The score remained locked at 1-1 at the end of regulation time and after the first half of extra time but there was late drama.

Newell went down under a challenge from Mihai Popescu early in the second half of extra time and Willie Collum pointed to the spot. Kevin Nisbet stepped up but blasted his shot against the crossbar.

Moments later, Hearts’ Aidy White crashed to the turf in Hibs’ box after being challenged by Paul McGinn. Liam Boyce took responsibility from the penalty spot and made no mistake.

Hibs couldn’t muster a response in the final minutes and Robbie Neilson’s side will now face Celtic or Aberdeen in the final.
