Hamilton have been hit with their third points deduction of the season amid ongoing financial problems.
Accies have received a six-point punishment for failing to pay December wages on time and in full, plus ongoing tax defaults.
The Lanarkshire club have dropped to ninth place in William Hill League 1, three points above bottom club Kelty Hearts. They have had a total of 21 points taken off this season.
An SPFL statement read: “The breaches relate to a period prior to the current ownership taking control of the club, and the SPFL continues to work constructively with the new board.
“The payment of players’ wages, and the tax default and reporting rules, are vital parts of maintaining a fair league competition for all clubs involved.”
New owners, Morley Sports Management, have been in negotiations with the Funding Globe, which issued a payday loan to Accies late last year and threatened to put the club into administration.
A club statement read: “Prior to the completion of the takeover by Morley Sports Management, players and staff were not paid for the month of December.
“The matter was self-reported to both the Scottish FA and the SPFL at the time, and following today’s hearing, the club has been issued with a six-point deduction with immediate effect.
“While this is clearly disappointing for everyone connected with the club, particularly given the positive momentum built since the turn of the year, our focus remains firmly on the pitch.
“The response from the players and staff in recent weeks has been outstanding, and their professionalism throughout this period deserves recognition.
“With continued unity and backing from our supporters, we are confident we can finish the season strongly.”
