Graeme Souness warns Rangers ‘need men in the dressing room’ ahead of Celtic clash STV News

Graeme Souness has warned Rangers’ players must deal with the heat ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm derby.

Derek McInnes’ side have made strides in recent weeks, with four wins from their last four games, which has seen them climb up to second in the Scottish Premiership.

They will take on Celtic in the first of a cup and league double header this weekend and the former Ibrox boss insists they must be able to deal with the criticism that comes with playing for the club.

He said: “It’s very difficult to play for Rangers because I come back to it. If you’re second, you’re deemed a failure. So you’ve got to keep your focus, take the criticism when it comes and deal with it and be strong about it.

“You need to have men, and it must be the same for Celtic. You need men in your dressing room to drag the lesser personalities with you.

“So, they’ve had criticism, they’ve dealt with it, and they’ve bounced back, which is very encouraging. They have gone out of Europe, criticised, bounced back from it.

“Winning games gives you confidence. Instead of taking three touches, take two. You think with a clearer head. Instead of taking two touches, you take one and football flows. It’s not difficult for you.

“Some people need a great deal of confidence and then there are others who don’t need so much. So it’s those guys who have to drag the rest with them at this time.”
