Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass admitted his frustration and disappointment after a home defeat to St Johnstone but says he’s confident the team’s form will turn.

A Stevie May goal gave the Perth side a 1-0 win at Pittodrie, extending Aberdeen’s winless run to seven games, with the Dons only scoring four times in that spell.

Glass said his side hadn’t been sharp enough with their attacking play and had let their defensive game drop at the crucial time. He believed it was a tight game with the sides cancelling each other out for the most part but said Aberdeen need to raise their game.

“Disappointing,” he said. “Frustrating.

“The quality in the final third when we got the ball wasn’t good enough. Defensively we weren’t good enough when the game was on the line. They’ve got situations they can get shots off, and a few crosses coming in the box as well, and it needs to be better at both ends.

“I covered it before the game and we worked all week and you expect better.

“You’re looking at two teams not doing what they probably should do at the minute and players are feeling it. There’s a lot of quality in both teams, but they’re trying to stop each other producing it.

“We created a decent amount but the quality in the final third was lacking. A little bit of desire to get on the end of things, or to get a feel for how to hit the areas, just simple things that are easy to rectify, I think.”

Glass said that the results weren’t coming from a lack of effort and he believes that work will pay off soon.

“I’m disappointed, the players are disappointed and I know the fans go home frustrated,” he said. “The intent is there from the team, they are trying everything they can and I think it will turn.

“You have to keep pushing and keep working. There’s no reason for us to doubt the group of players that are here.”

St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson was delighted with the three points but was less impressed with the overall performance.

“It’s great,” he said. “If you asked me what was our worst performance in the league, you’d probably say it was that one today it.

“We kept at it and I thought defensively we were really good. Our shape and energy to try and stop Aberdeen were good.

“I was a little disappointed on the flip side with what we did when we won the ball back, especially first half. We rushed things and tried to play too many first time passes.

“We didn’t control the game enough going forward first half but we grew into the game. I thought we had a couple of really good chances towards the end and I’m delighted to come away with a hard-fought victory.”
