Glasgow Clan have announced five new signings ahead of the Elite Ice Hockey League’s return.
Former captain Matt Haywood returns to the club as Malcolm Cameron builds a squad aimed towards bringing success to Braehead.
Scottish netminder Jordan McLaughlin also signs along with defenceman Medric Mercier and forwards Mathieu Roy and Nolan LaPorte.
For Haywood, who celebrated his testimonial in February 2020, right before the pandemic, he says he has a new-found love of the sport after so long without it.
He said: “I’m pleased and excited to get going again.
“Not having it has made me realise how much I love and I definitely missed it.
“In many ways, it’s given me a new lease of life and I’ve got the bit between my teeth again and keen to get going.
“It feels like a long time coming and it’s been great to see the announcements are coming out again. The fans are starting to get the buzz about it again.
“They’re not just normal fans. They’re on the next level and definitely appreciated and I definitely can’t wait to be back.
“All that’s happened with Covid and the arena, it’s a good time to start afresh with the new coach, who has some really good ideas.”
Roy, the 35-year-old Canadian, will also assist head coach Malcolm Cameron as a player-assistant coach as he prepares to return to Scotland.
He said: “I’m talking to Malcolm a lot as well and we have a good relationship.
“He coached me back in Florida and knows what I can bring to a team.
“I appreciated his call to ask me to be his assistant and I’m excited to be doing that role, especially as he tried to hire me in that role in Wichita a few years ago.”
