Glasgow City chief executive Laura Montgomery says the club will look to change direction by hiring a women as their new head coach, after Scott Booth decided to leave the club to take up a similar post at Birmingham City’s women’s side.

STV understands the club have already identified their number one target to replace Booth at Petershill Park.

Booth was appointed by Glasgow City in 2015 but Montgomery says it’s time to tap into the women’s market for their new boss:

She said: “I think for me personally I would like the club to appoint a female coach but first and foremost it has to be the right candidate

“That will always be our aim but I think there is a lot of good female coaches out there with their badges and with experience and that’s the most important thing for us as a club.

“We are a club that champion women and girls, it’s something we speak about all the time, so I will be honest and say I would like to appoint a female as our new head coach.”

Booth lead the side to six consecutive league titles and two Scottish cups in his time with City.

The former Aberdeen striker also took the club to the quarterfinals of the Champions League in 2019/20.

This season’s title was City’s 14th in a row and despite Booth’s departure – Montgomery says bringing in a fresh face can be of huge advantage to the club.

“Like anything I think change can be a positive. Scott has been here for six years but something I think shaking it up, having a new coach in with a fresh approach and new ideas isn’t necessarily a bad thing so that’s something that excites us.

“I think we are a very attractive proposition for a new head coach, our remaining structure remains as is only Scott is departing.

“So we are really looking forward to the future, we have a numbers of ideas about where we want to take the club forward and I’m sure we will have plenty of candidate for the job.”
