Glasgow City boss Leanne Ross says her team are excited for the challenge of taking on SWPL league leaders at Ibrox this weekend.
It will be first against second in the southside of Glasgow on Saturday with Rangers hosting the game at the home of their men’s team.
Ross leads her side into the game knowing a win could see them leapfrog Jo Potter’s squad at the top of the table.
Rangers have started the league season in fine form with eight wins and a draw from nine games and a remarkable 55 goals.
But City are hot on their tails with just a point separating the top two going into the top of the table clash.
Speaking on Friday, Ross said: “We are excited for the challenge to come, we know it’s going to be a difficult game and everyone is vying to get themselves into the starting 11 or into the squad so there is full focus.
“They are all trying to give their all in the sessions, they know we have a job to do and they all want to be on the pitch.
“We know the challenge that we face when we play a team like Rangers, they are free-scoring, they play nice football, so we know we will spend a lot of time without the ball as well and we are going to have to press really well, but all in all it’s about togetherness and setting up to be difficult to break down so that’s what we will be focused on doing and hopefully we’ll be able to keep a clean sheet on the day.”
The last time City played at Ibrox was in the final game of the 2022/23 season, when a last minute goal secured the league title in a dramatic lat day shootout between them, Rangers and Celtic.
But while that remains a happy memory for Ross, she knows that will mean nothing come kick-off on Saturday.
She said: “That is a happy memory, but memories are what they are and we need to focus on the game on Saturday. It’s going to be a completely different game, both sides have different players and there’s a different meaning to the game.
“So, yeah, as much as it’s nice to look back at winning the league at Ibrox, it doesn’t really mean anything towards this game on Saturday.”
