Glasgow City Football Club have confirmed that veteran midfielder Jo Love will leave the club after this weekend’s Scottish Cup final.
The 39-year-old club captain has spent the last 14 years at the Petershill club, scoring 99 goals in just under 300 appearances and winning 21 trophies.
She will be hoping to win her 22nd trophy when Leanne Ross’ side take on Rangers at Hampden on Sunday.
Since signing for City 2011, Love has won eleven league titles, six Scottish Cups and four League Cups as well reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League on two occasions.
She scored the winning penalty to beat Brondby in the last 16 of the continent’s top competition in 2015 as City became the first Scottish women’s side to reach the last eight.
The club confirmed on Friday that she will play her last game on Sunday, with her current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Love said: “It’s time for everyone to start something fresh and to see what the next challenge will bring.
“I have stayed at this club for so long because I love the people here. To have experienced so much success with them is something really special.
“There can never be enough thank yous to all of the people who have helped me through all the highs and the lows. My family have played a massive part in that, and I found another family with City.”
Chief Executive Laura Montgomery said: “Jo has given our club the past 14 years of her life and also some of our greatest ever memories and biggest achievements. It is no coincidence that our success has had Jo Love at the heart of every single bit of it.
“It is of no surprise to any of us in the game that she has gone on to be Scotland’s most-capped outfield international player of all time and an undeniable Glasgow City legend.
“Our club will not be the same without Jo, but she leaves knowing this will always be her family and a place to call home.”
