Four more men charged as investigation into Old Firm disorder continues

Four more men have been charged as part of an investigation into disorder at an Old Firm derby at Ibrox.

Fans clashed on the field after Celtic knocked Rangers out of the Scottish Cup on penalties on March 8.

Police have made a number of arrests following the violence, which saw officers, supporters, members of coaching staff, and players assaulted.

A ten-year-old child was also struck by a coin as items, including pyrotechnics, were thrown by supporters.

The men, aged 20, 26, 30 and 47, were arrested and charged and have been released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date.

This comes days after two men, aged 25 and 46, were arrested and charged in connection with culpable and reckless conduct.

A 27-year-old man has also been charged in connection with offences including breach of the peace, possessing an offensive weapon, and assaulting a police officer.

Another man, aged 26, was arrested and charged in connection with an assault.

This brings the total number of arrests in connection with the disorder to 17.

Detective Chief Inspector David Lamont said:”Extensive enquiries remain ongoing to identify and trace those involved.

“We will ensure those involved in acts of violence and disorder will face the consequences of their actions that day. Further arrests will be made.”

Following the disorder, Rangers said they agreed that a full independent review into the events surrounding the match should be conducted.

The Ibrox side warned of sanctions, potential withdrawal of ticketing privileges and stadium bans should individuals be identified and convicted of offences connected to the match.

Celtic’s interim chairman, Brian Wilson, said the club would “work closely” with Police Scotland and said concerns about access arrangements prior to the game would be addressed with officers, the SFA and Rangers.
