Former Celtic striker Mark Burchill swaps Liverpool for Saudi Pro League

Former Celtic striker Mark Burchill has joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

The ex-Hoops forward has been appointed Director of Recruitment after making the move from Liverpool alongside the Anfield club’s former Sporting Director Richard Hughes.

Burchill joined Liverpool as chief scout in 2024 after previously working with Richard Hughes at Bournemouth.

A statement on Al-Hilal’s official website read: “The appointment of Hughes came as part of Al-Hilal’s efforts to strengthen its football system and develop its sporting structure with specialised expertise.

“This will contribute to raising the quality of technical work, developing recruitment and scouting processes, and enhancing integration across all aspects related to the football sector.”

During a 17-year playing career, Mark Burchill turned out for 14 clubs, most notably Celtic and Dunfermline Athletic.
