Dunfermline are in talks to sign former Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama and reunite the Kenyan with his former boss Neil Lennon.
Lennon was appointed as the new manager of the Championship side last week, and is aiming to guide them away from relegation danger in the final seven games of the season.
He now hopes to boost the team with the addition of a player who was part of his title-winning Celtic side and bring Champions League experience to the heart of his new team.
Talks between the 33-year-old and the East End Park club are ongoing, with the midfielder set to undergo a medical.
Wanyama has been a free agent since leaving CF Montreal in January.
He first moved to Scottish football in 2011, making a move from Belgian side Beerschot and went on to play more than 60 games for Celtic in his two-year stay in Glasgow.
Wanyama won two league titles and a Scottish Cup but also played at the highest level in Europe. He scored the opening goal in Celtic’s famous 2-1 win over Barcelona.
A move to Southampton followed in 2013, and after three years in the Premier League he moved on to Spurs, where the Kenyan was part of the squad that reached the Champions League final in 2019.
The experienced midfielder made the switch to MLS in 2020 and was with Montreal until earlier this year.
If the move is completed as expected, his task will be helping his club climb from the relegation play-off spot to Championship safety.
Dunfermline are currently two points behind eighth-placed Hamilton with a game in hand.
