Former Celtic and Scotland captain Scott Brown has signed a new two-year-deal at English League One side Fleetwood Town.

The 38-year-old, who also played for Hibs and had a short spell at Aberdeen, led the club to a mid-table finish last season in what was his first year as a manager.

The Cods announced he had put pen to paper on the new deal on Friday.

Brown, who won 23 major honours during a 14-year spell at the Hoops, said: “I’m glad to have got the deal over the line, it’s been a brilliant first year in the job and can’t wait for the new season to start.

“I’ve been made to feel right at home by the Fleetwood staff, players, and fanbase so I just want to give everything I can to bring success to the town, hopefully starting with a win on Saturday.”

The former midfielder recently brought in Celtic wing-back Adam Montgomery on loan from his former club.

Fleetwood take on Dundee in a pre-season friendly at Dens Park on Saturday.
