Trevor Carson has warned his Dundee colleagues not to underestimate an Aberdeen side he expects to start motoring up the cinch Premiership in the months ahead.

The Dark Blues are currently one spot and two points above the eighth-placed Dons, whose league form is widely deemed to have suffered as a result of their involvement in the Europa Conference League.

Carson believes it is only a matter of time before Barry Robson’s side click into gear on the domestic front, but he feels Dundee – buoyed by a last-gasp win at Ross County last weekend – are equipped to ensure the Reds have a difficult afternoon at Dens Park.

“I think Aberdeen are in a false position with the squad they’ve got and the investment they’ve made,” said the Dundee goalkeeper.

“They’ve had the distraction of Europe and now that they’re out of it, I’d expect them to be a lot stronger in the second half of the season than what they’ve been.

“They’ve got great players and a good young manager and we’re expecting a really tough battle.

“They had a cup final on Sunday and then another tough game on Wednesday (a 2-1 win at home to Livingston) and we’re going to be fresh, in front of our home fans and on the back of a positive result, so we see it as another opportunity to get a win.”

Carson is looking forward to playing three of the next four matches at home after a run of three consecutive away games in which Dundee collected four points.

“With having the last three games away from home, we have found it a bit tougher,” he said, reflecting on a run of one win from their last four matches.

“It will be nice to get back to Dens Park, especially on the back of last weekend’s win. If we hadn’t won that we’d have been four games without a win and maybe a wee bit edgy but we can go out with the shackles off and the fans feeling good again.

“It just keeps that momentum and feelgood factor around the club and people get more attracted to coming to watch us.”
