Stephen Robinson told his St Mirren players to make the most of their shot at glory when they take on Celtic in Sunday’s League Cup final at Hampden Park.

The Buddies boss is looking to bring a trophy back to Paisley for the first time since 2013, when St Mirren beat Hearts 3-2 in the League Cup final at Hampden Park.

In 2017/18, the Northern Irishman guided Motherwell to the final of the League Cup and Scottish Cup only to lose to Celtic on both occasions and he is looking to go one better against the Parkhead side, who are under the tutelage of new boss Wilfried Nancy.

Robinson said: “It’s a cup final. You have to try and get it right. We will embrace it. I’ve said to these boys, you may never get this opportunity again.

“Some players go through their whole career without a cup final.

“I had one in my footballing career and always thought another one would come. It never did.

“So we’ve made sure we’ve reiterated that, to grab this opportunity.

“It may not come twice, some people are lucky to have that but I’ll make sure we don’t let this occasion pass us by.

“We see all the photographs of the teams that have been very, very successful here and won trophies, and they’re held in such high regard. And what I try and do is to sell the players, we want your names there.

“We want your pictures there. We want them to be remembered, we want them to be recognised everywhere they go for the rest of their lives.”
