Six-match bans for Rangers players who breached Covid rules

Five Rangers players have each been banned for six matches after breaking coronavirus rules.

First-team trio Bongani Zungu, Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey, plus academy youngsters Brian Kinnear and Dapo Mebude, who is on loan at Queen of the South, were all charged with flouting lockdown regulations last month.

The players, who were all fined by Rangers after an internal investigation, had their case heard by an independent disciplinary panel on Thursday.

They were each given a six-match ban – including two games suspended until the end of the season – on Tuesday.

Rangers accepted seven-game bans handed to attacker Jordan Jones and defender George Edmundson by the SFA for Covid-19 related breaches last year.

The pair attended a party after their side’s 1-0 Scottish Premiership win against Kilmarnock on November 1 and subsequently Jones and Edmundson moved on loan to Sunderland and Derby County respectively.

Rangers, who won their first Scottish Premiership title in ten years at the weekend, have five league fixtures remaining, along with the Scottish Cup.
