Seb Tounekti was delighted to secure a dream move to Celtic following a “stressful and hectic” transfer deadline day.

The Tunisia winger says his heart was set on a move to Glasgow as soon he heard of interest from the Scottish champions.

He finally completed the move just hours before the window slammed shut, and he is now over the moon to play for such a “massive” club.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he said: “It (transfer deadline day) was hectic, the window was closing on Monday evening, so we had to get everything through, with the medical and paperwork and everything else, so all credit to Celtic and Hammarby for managing it.

“It was a bit of a stressful day, but I am just happy to be here now. I got the green light to have my medical on Monday morning and we did it in Stockholm then I took the flight to Glasgow and finished everything else.”

Tounekti made his Hoops debut with a standout performance in the 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday that kept them top of the Premiership after five games.

The 23-year-old was named Man of the Match after the game, and while he says it is always good to start well, he insists he has much more to show as he aims to help the club win “many trophies”.

He said: “It’s been really good, it’s a massive club and it has been a nice start. There are fantastic people around the club and in the club, so it has been a really good start.

“It’s always good to have a nice start, and especially at a club like this, so it is a good feeling and I feel like it is only the beginning as I have so much more to show and hopefully I can bring something good to the club this season.

“I was aware of interest throughout the summer, but I knew that Hammarby didn’t want to sell, but the move really interested me, so I am glad that we managed to get it over the line and I am really happy to be a Celtic player.

“It happened really late, but I am just happy that it went through on time.

“Celtic is a massive club with lots of history and winning titles, so for a player at my age it is the best step that I could make.

“And I think the playing style will suit me well, so it was a really easy choice in the end. Then, of course, with everything around the club like the fans, the amazing stadium, and playing in Europe, it was a good fit.

“There were a few clubs interested, but once I heard of Celtic’s interest I told my agent and the people around me that this was my only choice.

“I am just really happy and proud to play for Celtic and I want to play here for a long time and hopefully win many trophies together.”
