Sydney Schertenleib struck twice for Switzerland as Scotland were denied back-to-back wins in an entertaining 4-3 friendly defeat at East End Park.
Scotland twice hit back to equalise in the first half through Kathleen McGovern and Geraldine Reuteler’s own goal after Schertenleib and Iman Beney had fired the Swiss in front.
But the hosts were made to pay for missed chances – Erin Cuthbert and Caroline Weir both hit the woodwork – as Schertenleib and Smilla Vallotto were on target in the second period before Weir’s stoppage-time consolation.
Scotland clinched their first victory in three matches under head coach Melissa Andreatta on Friday with a 2-1 friendly success in Morocco, courtesy of a spectacular 90th-minute winner from Real Madrid forward Weir.
That was also Scotland’s first win in almost a year and Weir was central as they made the better start against Switzerland before falling behind to Schertenleib’s header from Alisha Lehmann’s 24th-minute cross.
McGovern’s brilliant finish from Weir’s equally impressive through-ball hauled Scotland level 10 minutes before the break.
After Cuthbert’s curling effort hit the crossbar, the hosts fell behind again as Beney applied a cool finish before the Scots equalised for a second time when Weir’s corner in first-half stoppage time rebounded off Reuteler.
Schertenleib’s deflected shot put the Swiss back in front early in the second period before Weir’s close-range effort struck a post and Martha Thomas passed up a clear chance for Scotland.
Vallotto doubled the visitors’ advantage with a superb 25-yard strike in the 72nd minute, while Weir had one effort ruled out for handball before she crashed home Scotland’s third goal in added time.
