Drawing Celtic in League Cup 'means the world' and 'saved jobs' at Jags

Partick Thistle will host the Scottish champions in Sunday's League Cup quarter-final.

Partick Thistle boss Mark Wilson has revealed that drawing Celtic in the cup has helped save jobs at the Maryhill club.

The Scottish champions travel across Glasgow to Firhill on Sunday for the quarter-final of the League Cup.

Former Hoops player Wilson says the draw and a home sell out crowd “means the world” to the Championship club in a financial sense.

Speaking on Friday as he prepares his side to come up against Brendan Rodgers’ men, Wilson said: “It means the world for clubs like ourselves, we obviously aren’t flush with cash. There was a meeting taking place before this game, and people’s jobs were at risk.

“So when you get a tie like Celtic pulled out of the hat at home, and it’s a sell out, that goes a long way.

“Not really towards my budget in terms of the playing staff, but in terms of the personnel around the club.

“That is the stark difference between the clubs. Of course, Celtic fans are protesting against money not being spent, but we’ve got different issues here.

“So, a tie like this, and the Celtic fans play a huge part in helping to sell out the ground, it really means a lot to us.”
