Motherwell striker Tony Watt is set for a move to Dundee United next summer after agreeing a pre-contract deal, STV News understands.

The current Scottish Premiership top scorer has played for the Steelmen since February 2020 but has turned down a new deal to stay at Fir Park.

Speaking after the Tannadice side’s defeat to Hibernian on Sunday, Dundee United boss Tam Courts was tight-lipped about the prospect of signing the forward, who has also played for Celtic, St Johnstone and Hearts.

The 27-year-old, who has nine league goals so far this season, was an unused substitute as Motherwell ran out 2-1 winners against Livingston in the Boxing Day fixtures, with Dutchman Kevin van Veen scoring a double.

Watt, who has one cap for Scotland, has also had spells playing south of the border for Charlton, Cardiff and Blackburn Rovers.

He joined Motherwell last year after spells in Belgium and most recently in Bulgaria, where he played for CSKA Sofia before the move back to Scotland.
