McGregor: Draw in Belgrade gives Celtic a good platform to build from in Europa LeagueSNS Group

Celtic captain Callum McGregor says their draw in Belgrade gives them a good platform to build from in their Europa League campaign.

A Kelechi Iheanacho goal put the Hoops 1-0 up in the second half before Mark Arnautovic equalised for Red Star at the Rajko Mitic Stadium on Wednesday night.

It’s two home games up next in the league phase for Brendan Rodgers’ side, who will welcome Braga and Sturm Graz to Glasgow in October.

And McGregor insists a point against the Serbian champions gives them something to work from as they look to secure a place in the next round.

Speaking after the game, he said: “We end up with a point apiece, and not a bad result when you think about the circumstances and coming here away from home in the first game.

“So hopefully that gives us a good platform to move forward from and gives the team belief again that we can come to places like this, control most of the game and leave with a point.

“It’s always good to pick up points as early as possible, and to come here with a relatively new team, away from home, it gives a decent template of how we want to work, and we will only get better as the games go on as well.

“So, as a starting point it was pretty good.”
