Hibernian and Scotland striker Kevin Nisbet will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, his club has confirmed.

The 24-year-old was substituted 26 minutes in to Hibs’s 0-0 draw with Celtic on Sunday and scans have shown he suffered ligament damage.

It is not yet known if the player will require surgery.

Nisbet said the news was a blow as he felt he was starting to regain his best form.

He said: “I will stay focused and positive as I aim to get back into action for Hibs and Scotland quickly.

“I think Hibs fans were starting to see the best of me again, but this injury will just make me more determined to become an even better player, as I’m not the type to retreat into a corner and hope for the best.”

Nisbet was signed from Dunfermline Athletic in July 2020 for a six figure transfer fee and made a big impact in his debut season at Easter Road, scoring 18 goals in 46 appearances for the club.

He was handed his first Scotland cap against the Faroe Islands in March 2021 and scored his maiden international goal in friendly against the Netherlands in June.

The former Raith Rovers player had found the net nine times for Hibs in the current campaign before suffering the season-ending injury.
