The Hong Kong Premier League’s youngest-ever goal scorer is amongst the Scots representing their country this month.
Cai McGunnigle became the fifth youngest player to play in the league when he came off the bench for Hong Kong FC at just 15 years old.
On May 25, the Scottish striker fired in his first goal for the club, sealing his name in history as the youngest ever to score in the league, aged 16 years and one month.
His appearances for Hong Kong FC, one of the oldest clubs in Asia, caught the eye of Scotland under-17 coach Brian McLaughlin, and he was named in the squad competing in a development tournament in Portugal.
McGunnigle started the final game of the tournament against Italy.
The striker has since been called up for the UEFA Under-17 EURO 2026 qualifiers which will take place at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie this month.
McGunnigle isn’t the only Scot plying his trade with HKFC; 18-year-old winger Jack Bennie also appears for the side.
